European Elections Scheduled for 23 May
Posted on 15 April 2019
Following national guidance and the latest updates around the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union, South Holland District Council is planning accordingly for European elections to take place in the district next month.
The UK was due to leave the EU on 29 March 2019, which would have meant no further elections to the European parliament. However, as it remains a member, the next European parliamentary election will take place on Thursday 23 May 2019, unless the UK leaves the EU before that date.
Elections for the European Parliament take place every five years, with 73 UK representatives chosen as MEPs each time. This includes five MEPs for the East Midlands region, which residents of South Holland will vote for in May.
The notice of poll for the elections will be published today (Monday 15 April). The deadline to register to vote in the elections is Tuesday 7 May. For more information on these and the local elections on 2 May visit www.sholland.gov.uk/elections or call 01775 761161.
