National Food Hygiene Ratings
Eating out? Getting food in? Find out if a restaurant, takeaway or food shop has good food hygiene standards
We are responsible for inspecting all food establishments within our district, but not all businesses will receive a National Food Hygiene rating only those selling food directly to the public.
The food safety officer inspecting a business checks how well the business is meeting the law by looking at:
- how hygienically the food is handled
- the cleanliness and condition of the structure of the building
- how the business manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe.
At the end of the inspection, the business is given one of the six ratings, 0-5. The top rating of '5' means that the business was found to have 'very good' hygiene standards. Any business should be able to reach this top rating.
You can find out the Food Hygiene ratings for South Holland at the Food Standards Agency website.
