Garden Waste Scheme

At this time we are unable to accept new sign ups for the garden waste scheme, as well as the purchasing of additional bins. This is to prioritise the collections of existing garden waste subscribers for as long as we can, due to staff sickness levels as a result of COVID-19. If you would like to join the garden waste scheme you can register your interest online to join the waiting list.

Please continue to renew your existing garden waste subscriptions as normal. In the unfortunate event that garden waste collections need to be temporarily stopped due to staff sickness levels, we'll extend all subscription end dates to ensure residents receive their full 24 collections when service resumes.

Garden waste subscription costs

The Garden Waste Scheme will cost £52 for 24 collections throughout the year. Collections are fortnightly, with the exception of the Christmas period. There is a £16 charge to cover delivery, repairs and loan of the bin, newsletters and further offers.

Purple plastic sacks can be provided to properties that aren't in the area of the Garden Waste Scheme, which will be collected by the refuse freighter. The cost for paper and purple sacks is the same; £15 for 10 sacks (plus £5 delivery).

Wheeled bins, paper sacks or purple sacks will be delivered within 10 working days of a successful application.

Please don't:

  • dump waste in a dyke, field or on the roadside (fly-tipping)
  • present garden waste for collection in domestic black sacks, as they will not be collected
  • have a bonfire that has a detrimental impact on the environment. Please see our bonfire advice.

The types of materials that are accepted as garden waste are:

  • general garden waste
  • grass cuttings
  • tree and shrub cuttings
  • small branches - up to 2 inches (50mm) in diameter
  • shrubs
  • leaves
  • flowers
  • weeds
  • prunings
  • roots
  • hedge trimmings.

No other materials will be accepted. If the wrong materials are put out for collection, the container will have a sticker placed on it, asking you to remove the unacceptable items. The container will then be emptied on the next scheduled collection day.
